Opanas Georgiyovych Slastyon - a classic of Ukrainian art, painter and graphic artist, ethnographer, architect, teacher, the first illustrator of T.G. Shevchenko's poem "Haydamaki" (1886), public figure, founder of the Myrhorod Museum of Local History, worked at the Myrhorod Art and Industrial School named after Mykola Gogol. He was born on December 2 (December 14), 1855 in the city of Berdyansk, Zaporizhzhia region, died on September 24, 1933 in the city of Myrhorod.
In 1965, a reinforced concrete monument was erected on the grave of O. H. Slastion (author: A. Ubiyvowk), in 1989 it was replaced by a granite monument (author: R. A. Husarenko, students of the Ceramic Technical School).
